Sewing Fabrics – Which Knits to Choose for Women's Clothing?

Sewing Fabrics – Which Knits to Choose for Women's Clothing?

The fabric composition can tell the consumer how the garment will behave during washing and ironing, how quickly it will wear out, and how it will coordinate with other parts of the wardrobe. For a wholesale seller, it also means understanding how to transport the clothing, store it, give it an attractive look, present it favorably to the customer, and maintain demand for the product in the right season. This material is easy to process because it is flexible, pliable, wrinkle-resistant, dirt-repellent, and has proper breathability.

Synthetic Fabrics - What Are They?

Synthetics come from petroleum-based products, which is why their purest form is not suitable for everyday wear. Most of its variants do not breathe and tend to accumulate static, making them unsuitable for summer in their purest form. However, synthetic additives can extend the lifespan of clothing, protect it from wrinkles, and help it maintain its shape during washing. This is why conscientious manufacturers do not use pure synthetics where they can improve it with natural materials, and vice versa.

For wholesale trade, it is better to buy garments made from blended fabrics, such as:

  • neoprene, a synthetic rubber covered with fabric on both sides, used in warm tracksuits and semi-season dresses;
  • jacquard, a decorative fabric with large patterns, made from cotton and synthetic fibers, used for dresses;
  • lycrosporin, a thin, elastic fabric with good breathability and shape retention, used for summer clothing;
  • crepe, a light, elastic fabric with good wrinkle resistance due to the addition of elastane, used for dresses;
  • nylon and polyamide are used to produce blouses, synthetic alternatives to silk;
  • shirt fabric - cotton fabric refined with synthetics to reduce wrinkles.

What Are the Types of Knitted Fabrics?

Natural threads do not stretch well, but when used in knits (connecting threads through knitting rather than weaving), the resulting fabric stretches in all directions. Women's garments made from such materials acquire the ability to conform to the body shape, perfectly fitting it. These fabrics provide an attractive look and comfort in wearing throughout the year.

It must be agreed that for dresses and women's sportswear, this type of knit is the most useful. For example, warm tracksuits and sporty or casual dresses are made from tricot - dense jersey (light fabric), smooth on the outside and with a soft fleece on the inside. There is also fabric made from corn. Corn is a soft, highly stretchy knit, perfect for summer suits, while angora (from Angora rabbits) is used for autumn-winter suits.

What Fabrics Are Used to Make Women's Clothing?

Below are materials that were originally natural but have now been modified to improve their properties and make them more useful and comfortable.

  • blouses made from bengaline, a practical silk imitation suitable for complex cuts and draping;
  • crepe chiffon shirts, transparent silk based on linen;
  • angora, the warmest, softest, and most delicate type of wool, used to make suits;
  • viscose - made from wood fibers, it does not heat up, making it perfect for summer dresses on hot days;
  • cotton - highly hygienic and best suited for warm tracksuits and summer dresses;
  • linen dresses for summer because linen is stronger and more hygroscopic than cotton and provides good cooling;
  • chiffon - delicate, dense fabric with a plain weave;
  • organza, smooth-woven silk for elegant clothing;
  • guipure, an intricate pattern on a transparent mesh base, used to give seriousness to dresses and blouses;
  • satin - medium-weight silk with a glossy exterior.
